Tacotel Limited, the sole handler of import and export cargo at the Takoradi Port in the Western Region has put in place adequate measures at its terminal to ensure the safety of its clients.
This the company said was in conformity with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Government of Ghana prescribed protocols.
As the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continued to be felt in many places around the world and Ghana recording 152 cases with five deaths, the importance of community safety cannot be over emphasized, Mr Richmond Adjei-Appiah, Terminal Manager of Tacotel made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi.
Among the measures put in place , are continuous and thorough disinfection of the entire terminal, provision of running water and soap for hand washing, provision of hand sanitizers at the terminal and checking temperature of visitors at all entry points.
The rest he said are ensuring the practice of social distancing, encouraging remote meetings over physical meetings and placing of notices at vantage points to educate all clients and visitors of the terminal on COVID-19.
He announced that his outfit has introduced a shift system where fewer staff are represented each day to avoid crowding as they provide the required services to customers.
He pointed out that all staff have undergone training offered by the GPHA Hospital on the coronavirus and that they have made available a standby response team to attend to emergency cases and refer clients who records beyond the normal temperature of 37.5oC to the GPHA Hospital.
“We have set up a dedicated webpage to reflect Tacotel’s position on COVID-19 and to provide guidance to its community, including information for its clients and their families”, Mr Adjei-Appiah emphasized.
Tacotel is the operator of an ultra-modern Inland Container Depot (ICD) created out of a concessionary agreement between the GPHA and Ibistek Limited as a special purpose vehicle established to operate the off dock terminal as an extension of the GPHA in Takoradi. Source: News Ghana
